I support a lab environment fueled by enthusiasm and love for discoveries!
My passion for science is rooted in a strong desire to advance society, not only by creating knowledge and developing new technologies in our field but also by contributing to social issues, leveraging on the visibility that scientists have and how we can guide policies. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) values are essential to creating a fairer society by identifying and fostering future talents. Indeed, as anticipated by Vannevar Bush in 1945 in his letter to President Roosevelt, we need to ensure that everyone has equal access to education and not let social barriers prevent brilliant people from accessing education and becoming the next generation of scientific leaders. However, the current system failed to provide everyone with equitable opportunities since it is mainly based on a biased "merit". As deeply discussed by Michael Sandel, especially in his recent "The Tyranny of Merit", our idea of "merit" is far from creating a fair society since social inequities put many people on a different starting line than others. For these reasons, we will prioritize enthusiasm for science and the studied topics over anything else and will not leave space for any form of social discrimination.
